People in the Western part of the world have been enjoying peanut butter for hundreds of years. The Aztec Native Americans crushed peanuts to create a peanut butter paste that was enjoyed by many. Today the United States and China are the two countries that lead peanut butter production. Today we just go to grocery store and pick out our favorite peanut butter to use for sandwiches and other things like baking cookies!!
Here is a recipe for delicious peanut butter cookies, which are only made better with a Hershey kiss on top!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 3/4 cup peanut butter (I use Jif- in my opinion there is no better!)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 bag of Hershey kisses
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine margarine, peanut butter, sugars, egg, and vanilla. Blend together very well.
Add flour, baking soda and salt with mixer.
Chill dough for a minimum of 1 hour in the refrigerator.
While dough is chilling, use this time to unwrap your bag of Hershey kisses. Be sure to get all foil pieces off the chocolate and into the trash.
Use scoop to portion out 1 tablespoon sized balls. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake until edges are lightly brown (about 7 to 9 minutes). Don't overcook!
Immediately place a single Hershey kiss on each of the peanut butter cookies. Push down on the Hershey kiss so that it is firmly in place.
*You can also chose to not to put kisses on the cookies leaving them to be plain (but delicious) peanut butter cookies.*
Let cookies cool on cookie sheet for 2-3 minutes.
Remove cookies and place on a cooling rack.
As mentioned in this recipe- use parchment paper!
Whenever you bake cookies - any recipe will direct you to either grease or not to grease the cookie sheet that you are using. If you are using parchment paper it doesn’t matter.
In fact, parchment paper allows a more even cooking for your cookies. It also allows the cookies to be easily removed from the cookie sheet after baking. Then- you just need to use a new piece of parchment before baking your next batch… no washing needed.
Parchment paper is a simple trick that will make your cookie baking experience better.
Simply cut parchment paper to fit any size cookie sheet.
